
Massacre Ghat
Massacre Ghat, or Sati Chaura Ghat, is a popular ghat in Kanpur. It rests along the holy Ganges and marks the northern boundary of Kanpur. Just like all other ghats set along the sacred Ganga, this ghat also has its own importance and significance. There is a Shiva Temple located near this ghat and regular aartis and prayers are conducted here on a daily basis.
It Is Known For:-
1) Massacre Ghat, in the bygone times, was a place where the women practiced sati after the death of their husbands. Slowly, this gruesome act was abolished
2) This ghat also gained a high importance during the revolt of 1857 in India. It was a rebellion against the British rule and nearly 300 British people, including women, were killed here. Thus, giving it the name Massacre Ghat
Best Time To Visit:-
Massacre Ghat is one of the famous ghats in Kanpur. Each day, it is visited by numerous visitors including the tourists from the foreign land. It is used as a bathing ghat and conducting the holy rituals.
Previously, cremation was also practiced at this ghat. However, the act was discontinued after a legal notice from the authorities.
